What are the conclusions, significant for traders, logically follow from these facts?

Under the new conditions of the controllable market, a trader must not follow the "crowd" (flock). As B. Williams, A. Elder and many other authors have fairly emphasized, the "crowd" pushes the price at any spontaneous market. On the contrary, at the organized Forex market orders must be opened in advance of Consortium's interests!

I try to find the core of a good sense in each technique of the successful work at Forex . Is it necessary to rediscover the well-known principles? There are many prosperous traders who openly and honestly present their methods of gaining profits at Forex . If their techniques are successful, it means that these authors have a thorough grasp of the problem in its essence.

In June, 2001 the three biggest dealers at Forex market - Citibank, J.P. Morgan Chase и Deutsche Bank - together with Reuters Group PLC had started up the system Atriax . However, the latter did not meet competition and stopped operations in spring, 2002. The author of the paper just hinted that even the alliance of the 3 biggest world banks could not make any serious competition to Organizer of the "game" at Forex (to Consortium or somebody else).

In this connection, how one can take on trust the principal thesis by B. Williams concerning "Trading chaos" that rules Forex? What's important, all methods of this author issue from this postulate. So, to what extent can B. Williams's techniques be correct if their basis is principally erroneous? Let us enumerate the fundamental mistakes made in "Trading Chaos". It is necessary to facilitate understanding of the techniques and practical recommendations given by B. Williams concerning the work at Forex .

1. B. Williams sees Forex as a spontaneous market, uncontrollable by anybody. According to this author, it is chaos but not an organized system that would have its own strategy, tactic, techniques, goals, methods of fraud, etc.

2. B. Williams mentions the pair "trader + broker". However, unconsciously or deliberately, he has omitted the third participant of this very process. This is banks and the world financial system in general. Surely, this organization will not just take a detached view of the traders' arbitrary "game" with the basic world currencies (USD, EURO, GBP, CHF, etc.).

Let us now evolve B. Williams's idea by ourselves. Our aim is to demonstrate absurdity of his "chaos theory" applied to the up-to-date market of Forex.

· How brokers and banks market-makers can pay off profits from traders' deposits if the traders' total earnings would be bigger than the market-maker's profit in this period?

· Being in shoes of market-makers, National Banks, governments of leading countries of the world, etc., how will you conduct yourself on the eve of the news issue? For instance, after the publication of Michigan University Index, USD can "go up" by 150-200 points with respect to all national currencies. That is, in several hours dozens of milliards of USD will be redistributed. Somebody will earn the money, whereas somebody will lose it because of the difference in rates of exchange (quotations).

What will you do in the place of the biggest financial groupings? Would you just be sitting and taking sedative pills? Would you just be trying to guess what steps will be taken by professors of a Michigan University? Will 0.3% be added to the index previous value (91.4) or subtracted from it? What's important, this "difference" makes milliards of USD - for somebody! Possessing such capitals, would you just be sitting idly and waiting for God knows what? More probably, you will try to make this process controllable and predictable. Rather you will do your best to gain profit with the help of such indices and news. I think you will try to let the others lose their money.

· What does the theory of "chaos" at Forex represent by itself if Organizer of the "game" has trained all traders to act according to the stereotype?

a). To place stop-losses and postponed orders at the same places.

b). If the issued news are better than the prognostication, one must stake on "buy". Otherwise (if the news are worse than the prognostication), it is necessary to stake on "sell".

c). If a quicker moving average crosses the slower one upwards, the order must be opened on "buy". In the case of the downward crossover, the order must be opened on "sell".

d). In the case of divergence, one must try to work against the trend. B. Williams and other "classics" at least had to mention that it was basically absurd to work like this at the beginning of the trend and in the middle of it.

This is why the given chapter is named "Anti-trading chaos" - to be more precise, it is the anti-trading system.

Further I'll not dwell on absurdity of the chaos theory by B. Williams when applied to Forex . I hope it is quite clear. Any trader can find a lot of evidences of the fact that Forex is a controllable market. There are also many examples that prove fallacy of B. Williams's conclusion that traders form a trend and "push" it.

As I get it, the "game" of Forex and its rules in their essence are the following.

1. There is Organizer of the financial game (the Alligator) and participants (victims).

2. Organizer always tries to demonstrate: a). objectivity and honesty of the rules established by himself; b). simplicity of the analysis, predictability of the situations and the possibility of earning money easily and regularly by one of the numerous methods of the analysis (FA, TA, etc.).

3. All participants of the "game" are subjected to the same psychological treatment by Brokers, authors of numerical "classical" works on Forex and analysts via their sites and prognoses. That is, such specialists teach every trader to work as all others in the world do.

As the result, Organizer beforehand knows the traders' line of conduct in these or those situations. The percentage of "players"-losers is stable - about 90%.

4. A rapid growth in the number of fraudulent machinations developed by Brokers has become a logical continuation of the above-enumerated rules of the given game. Economists from Brokers have quickly grasped that the number 90% of traders-loses is very close to the figure 100%. What for will they send clients' transactions to the foreign market (the market-maker bank)? In fact, traders will lose all the same! Besides, it is possible to slightly "help" traders in their losing by "knocking down" stop-losses - all traders keep their stop-losses approximately at the same place. In addition, the following tricks can be done as well: the "slippage" (opening of transactions at a price much worse than the price at which the trader wanted to open the deal); computer "pending" at the beginning of the heavy movement in currency pairs. One can give many analogous examples - up to the undisguised fraudulent nonpayment of earned profits to traders.

These centers are also protected from the viewpoint of finances. If in flats the sums of orders of the traders who open transactions on "buy" and "sell" are approximately equal, Brokers can always hedge the difference between "buy" and "sell" with a market-maker under the condition of a heavy trend.

The only thing that cheats from Brokers are afraid of is the unmasking of methods of their work. Really, this will put an end to the afflux of new "victims"!

There are several sure signs of a fraudulent Brokers. In my educational course I enumerate some of such indications. However, here I give only one characteristic (traders should think about it well). If Brokers has one point of spread, you should calculate expenses on the marginal trade, in detail described in all "classical" manuals of Forex . For instance, let it be thought that you open the order for one lot. Forex Brokers supposedly buys EURO to the sum of $ 100 thousands for you. When you close the order, Forex Brokers supposedly transfer EURO to USD again. Thus, if you open 10 deals with EURO/USD pair during a day, your Forex Brokers is supposed to send money abroad and get it back 10 times, buying EURO for USD and v.v. All these transactions must be made exceptionally for you! Is it realistic?

In a next-door bank you should ask the conditions for the transfer of $100 thousands abroad and back. You will learn the cost of the commission for such services and the time required for this transaction (in half a day, the next day, etc.). Here I do not mention the papers that must be prepared for each transfer. I also say nothing about the time required for collecting all signatures.

I wonder, during this period of time what changes will occur in EURO/USD rate as the latter is altering every second?

5. To earn regularly at Forex, you have to master yourself. That is, a trading scheme must be developed. According to this scheme you will work against "generally accepted" rules. As it is already mentioned, these rules are popularized by Organizer of the game at Forex . Sticking to these rules, more than 90% of traders all over the world lose their money.

6. Developing my trading system, I have made use of numerous generally-recognized techniques of the work at Forex (by B. Williams, etc.). Surely, there is a kernel of good sense in any technique that enables earning money - even if in 50% of cases. Therefore, the trader's task is to differentiate the conditions, under which a given technique can provide profit. It is also necessary to understand where, when and why this technique yields a loss to the trader. Naturally, a trader must use only this first part of the system, where one can gain profit.

7. For the development of your own trading system, you must do your best to organically integrate different techniques, profitable at Forex. Various methods of giving analysis to Forex from different viewpoints do help us to more thoroughly and profoundly understand this market and, consequently, to gain profit regularly.

8. The game of Forex is widely spread all over the world. In addition to speculators, there are other participants in Forex - e.g., individuals who need to exchange currency for their business. All these factors provide an objective opportunity to gain profits bigger (and more regularly) than in any other financial game of the world.

9. Therefore, Forex gives a real opportunity to get into the principally new financial market and to become a really independent. Anybody can be engaged in trading at any point in the world. For sure, a State, much as it would want it, cannot deprive a trader of his production facilities because in this area gaining of profit depends just on one's techniques and skill.

10. Forex gives you just a chance to earn money. However, not everybody can learn how to gain real profit. Even after having mastered the fundamentals of making money at Forex , a trader needs to learn a lot of additional factors in order to transform his potential abilities into real money. In this connection the following aspects are very important.

a). the psychological stability (the absence of fear and hazard, the ability to work automatically at the subconscious level, etc);

b). a reliable broker (the trader's profits, being virtual, materialize only if you can convert it into real money at any second);

c). self-perfection via mastering new techniques of gaining profit, learning from an experienced instructor and due to exchanging opinions with other traders;

d). the possibility of obtaining money from the investor for the asset management. Analogously, I perfectly well realize that the reaction to the last two items of my vision of the game at Forex can be inadequate. It will stimulate an immediate tide of slander and lies concerning me and my book. The reason is that I'm not an employee of BROKER but a trader. The first definition of a forex "exotic" refers to any individual currency that is less broadly traded than the major currencies. The second forex definition for "exotic" is the one we refer to on this website - a forex option contract (trading strategy) that is a derivative of a standard vanilla forex option contract.

To understand what makes an exotic forex option "exotic," you must first understand what makes a forex option "non-vanilla." Plain vanilla forex options have a definitive expiration structure, payout structure and payout amount. Exotic forex option contracts may have a change in one or all of the above features of a vanilla forex option. It is important to note that exotic options, since they are often tailored to a specific's investor's needs by an exotic forex options broker, are generally not very liquid, if at all.

Exotic forex options are generally traded by commercial and institutional investors rather than retail forex traders, so we won't spend too much time covering exotic forex options brokers. Since exotic forex options contracts are usually specifically tailored to an individual investor, most of the exotic options business in transacted over the telephone through forex option brokers. There are, however, a handful of forex option brokers who offer "if touched" forex options or "single payment" forex options contracts online whereby an investor can specify an amount he or she is willing to risk in exchange for a specified payout amount if the underlying price reaches a certain strike price (price level). These transactions offered by legitimate online forex brokers can be considered a type of "exotic" option. However, we have noticed that the premiums charged for these types of contracts can be higher than plain vanilla option contracts with similar strike prices and you can not sell out of the option position once you have purchased this type of option - you can only attempt to offset the position with a separate risk management strategy. As a trade-off for getting to choose the dollar amount you want to risk and the payout you wish to receive, you pay a premium and sacrifice liquidity. We would encourage investors to compare premiums before investing in these kinds of options and also make sure the brokerage firm is reputable.

Again, it is fairly easy and liquid to enter into an exotic forex option contract but it is important to note that depending on the type of exotic option contract, there may be little to no liquidity at all if you wanted to exit the position.

Firms Offering Forex Option "Betting" - A number of new firms have popped up over the last year offering forex "betting." Though some may be legitimate, a number of these firms are either off-shore entities or located in some other remote location. We generally do not consider these to be forex brokerage firms. Many do not appear to be regulated by any government agency and we strongly suggest investors perform due diligence before investing with any forex betting firms. Flat periods can be removed from the charts by selecting the check box. Clicking the Done button on the back flips the widget over to the chart on the front.

A resize control is provided at the bottom right corner of the front. Newly opened charts inherit the size of the last to record its preferences. To open a new chart using the default size close a chart first.

Prime4x — Forex Broker with MT4 and CFD Trading

Prime4x is a new Forex broker that started offering its services on-line in 2008 and its description was added to my site today. Prime4x offers MetaTrader 4 platform, CFD instruments to trade on, deposits via wire transfer and credit cards only and various bonuses. The minimum account size is $100 and all traders receive 10% bonus on their deposit. There is also a free promotional bonus $500 available on every new account, which can’t be withdrawn, but the profit earned from trading this bonus can be. Prime4x is based in Cyprus and although they are not currently regulated by any authority there, they claim to get the regulation by the Cyprus Securities Exchange Commission from the beginning of 2009. Trading is leveraged by 1:500 for mini accounts, 1:400 for standard accounts and 1:100 for institutional accounts. Apart from the retail Forex trading Prime4x offers managed accounts service.

The only problem with this Forex broker is their website. It’s completely unprofessional, features examples of some really awkward spelling and punctuation and also tries to resize the browser window with each page load.

An interesting e-book was written back in 1998 by Sam Y. Cross of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York — All About the Foreign Exchange Market in the United States. In the focus of this e-book is the U. S. Forex market in its common understanding — not the macroeconomic currency indicators. This e-book was written in the pre-euro era, so it contains some archaisms — such as French franc and Deutsche Mark. The research presented in this book would be interesting not only to Forex traders (who can get a lot of useful facts from it) but also to everyone, who is interested in the currency trading market, because it is a part of its history. 10 years ago, the on-line Forex market as it’s currently known to millions of traders, has been only starting to develop and it’s amazing to read about the market’s history and understand what a way the Forex market has came until now. U.S. President Elections Dollar Rally Over

EUR/USD declined today after the U.S. elections were over and the next president’s name became known fast and without any troubles. Barack Obama may create all necessary conditions for the dollar to grow further, but it will take him a lot of effort to do so. When the euphoria around the elections disappeared, EUR/USD began to rise on Forex. The macroeconomic background in U.S. is very poor now and it will press on the dollar too. EUR/USD is currently trading near 1.3032.

ADP employment report for October showed a 157,000 decline in the non-farm private sector jobs. The September’s 8,000 drop was also revised — down to 26,000 lost jobs. The median forecast by the market analysis for October drop was 102,000.

Non-manufacturing ISM index also decreased in October — from 50.2% to 44.4%, while a drop to only 47.8% was expected by the market participants. There is a chance though that the month of October was the worst in the current crisis and the reports that will show November indicators will be more optimistic.

Pattern Recognition Master for Japanese Candlesticks

The Japanese candlesticks is a nice tool of trading for any chart-trader. Some Forex traders prefer to trade on the bare charts without adding any indicators. The candlestick patterns are used as the entry and exit symbols in many cases. But it’s not an easy task to constantly recognize those Shooting Stars, various Dojis, Hammers, etc. Pattern Recognition Master is a nice tool to help the chart-traders to automatically recognize candlestick patterns, leaving the traders only with the choices of the actual trading. You can download this MetaTrader indicator from my site for free. It was created by Jason Robinson, Carl Sanders and Hartono Setiono.

When you attach it to your MT4 chart each candle that represents some candlestick pattern will be marked with the symbol. A legend for the symbols is located in the top left corner of the chart and you can easily find out which patter is represented by the specific symbol. Now, all you have to do is to buy after the strong bullish patterns and sell on the strong bearish patterns.

Dollar Returns to Bullish Trend Despite Previous Losses

EUR/USD dropped today for the second day despite the correctional wave that was forming during the last three days. After peaking at 1.3288 yesterday, the currency pair is now trading near 1.2733 as the traders continue to dump other currencies and buy U.S. dollars.

U.S. personal income rose by 0.2% in September, following 0.4% increase in August and slightly above 0.1% forecast. Personal spending decreased faster than the analytics expected — by 0.3% instead of 0.2%. This decline followed the stagnation in August.

Chicago PMI declined at a surprisingly fast pace in October — from 56.7 to 37.8. Market analytics forecasted a drop 48.0.

Michigan Sentiment Index dropped from 70.3 to 57.6 in October, which is slightly above 57.5 forecast value.

EUR/USD Trades Almost Unchanged After Early Peaking

EUR/USD went down today after rising to 1.2897 early today. A bit of optimism brought by the positive Asian trading dissolved fast after European stock markets failed to continue the rally. EUR/USD is currently trading near 1.2776 after housing and manufacturing data releases in U.S.

ISM PMI (manufacturing index) fell from 43.5% to 38.9% in October, while the forecast showed a decline to 42% for the last month.

Construction spending declined by 0.3% in September after remaining unchanged in August. A decline by 0.8% was expected by the market.

Although this book doesn’t deal with the Forex market specifically and was written with the stocks in mind, it still can be applied to the Forex trading, and I must say that even before I read it I’ve been using the strategy described in this book myself with currencies.

Swing trading as it described in this book is a trading where you enter a market in the main trend’s direction, but only after a significant pullback that is followed by a clear signal that the trend will continue occurs. Theoretically, it can be applied to both intraday and daily charts, but the author suggest holding positions for several days before realizing the profit.

Another good thing is that, while this ebook is quite long (74 pages), it reads very easy and fast. If you think that the swing trading is for you, download it.

EUR/USD Grows Little on Flat Pending Home Sales

September 9th, 2008

EUR/USD traded today with a great deal of the intraday volatility — it managed to reach its almost two year minimum level at 1.4046 during the early Asian trading and post an upward spike later.After today’s portion of the U.S. macroeconomic statistics came out, the currency pair left its equilibrium point and rose a little. It is now trading close to 1.4126 level.

Pending home sales index fell 3.2% to 86.5 in July. This decline followed 5.8% increase in June (revised up from 5.3%). The estimated decline for July was at 1.3%.

Wholesale inventories continued to grow July — they gained 1.4% after 0.9% growth a month before. Average forecast for this indicator’s growth was 0.6%.

Microtrading with FXCM

FXCM broker entered the market with a new micro trading opportunity — FXCM Micro Forex broker. As many new traders prefer to trade with the small amounts of money, such brokers as FXCM can’t fulfill their needs. FXCM Micro looks like a really good opportunity for the low-budget traders. It offers $25 minimum account balance (with a maximum cap at $5,000) with 0.01 lots minimum for the position traded volume. Leverage is fixed at 1:400 level which is nice for the risky players with a little capital, but not many experienced traders would like tolerating the risk connected with such a leverage. 1.5 pips average spread on EUR/USD allows some really interesting short-term trading strategies.

Of course, it’s hardly a good broker choice for the professional traders or those who wish to start out with a big real account capital and a lower risk setting. Deposit and withdrawal can be done only via the credit card with this broker. Anyway, FXCM Micro is one of the few Forex brokers that offer micro Forex accounts and are regulated by the NFA.

Today I offer you a new free ebook to download from my site — A Six-Part Study Guide to Market Profile. Actually it’s not very new — it was written in 1996 by the Chicago Board of Trade professionals. It thoroughly explains the one of the most innovative but not too popular trading concept — the market profile. First it will help you understand what market profile is and how it can help in your trading. The good thing here that it doesn’t matter if you are a long-term or a short-term trader. And although it was written for the commodity traders, it can still be easily applied in the Forex market. Then it will teach you how to use the market profile to monitor both short-term and long-term trends. EUR/USD Rises above the Friday Open Level

August 21st, 2008

Dollar declined today against the euro, allowing EUR/USD currency pair to rise above the last Friday’s open level. Currently it is trading near 1.4863 — 58 pips above Friday’s open. The decline was most probably caused by the investors’ concerns related to the U.S. financial market.

Initial jobless claims decreased from 445k to 432k last week in the United States — that’s below the median forecast 438k.

Leading indicators showed a more than expected declined posting a -0.7% change in July after 0.1% decline in June and 0.3% decline forecast for this month.

Philadelphia Fed index improved in August. It rose from -16.3 back in July to -12.7 this month. This growth exceeds the average estimate according to which the index should have risen to -13.4 only. Despite the growth it still remains at a very low negative level and is signaling a slowdown of the U.S. economy.

Statstical Forex System — Example MT4 Expert Advisor

After saying so much about the statistical Forex systems, I think it’s time to give an example of one. But first, I have to warn that this exert advisor «as is» wasn’t profitable during tests — it had its losses and gains, but spread losses took over eventually, so I can’t suggest using it on your real money account. This expert advisor is good only as an example of an actual statistical Forex system. It uses Tom DeMark’s pivot points calculated over the last 5 bars, which are then normalized by subtracting the current Open price. I used it on EUR/USD H1 chart, but I believe that it can be used on any other currency pair and timeframe. It consists of two .mq4 files:

The first file is StatGathererExample.mq4 — as it appears from its name, this MetaTrader EA will only gather statistics. Run it via strategy tester on a 1-2 year history period (it doesn’t have to be a good quality history, because it has nothing to do with price ticks, and uses just your OHLC data from bars; just be sure to have enough bars in your chart). This EA gathers statistics over a period of time and stores it to MapPath file («rl.txt» by default) in your /tester/files/ directory. Copy it to /experts/files/ for further use by the actual expert advisor.

And the second file is StatRunnerExample.mq4 — this EA is used for the actual trading and on-the-fly statistics gathering. This EA uses MapPath file («rl.txt» by default) from your /tester/files/ (for strategy tester) or /experts/files/ (for actual use) to get the initial statistics. It also continues to gather its own statistics and appends it to the initial file, saving it after deinitilizing.

You can freely use these examples to construct your own statistical Forex systems. I am also currently developing a statistical expert advisor that would be profitable and I promise to share it after the testing period.

EUR/USD Continues Falling on High PPI in U.S.

EUR/USD declined today for the fourth day as the producer price index was reported at a higher than expected level in the United States. Even the worsening of the housing market failed to press on the U.S. dollar today.

Building permits were at 937k in July down from 1,138k in June (revised up from 1,091k). They were expected to fall to 959k annual rate. There were 965k housing starts in July in U.S — down from 1,084k in June (revised up from 1,066k) and slightly above the forecast for July — 960k.

Producer price index (PPI) advanced 1.2% in July — below the 1.8% growth in June but twice as much as the average forecast of 0.6% for July.

I don't know what Cynthia's problem is. FXOpen has always been good to me in the 5 months I have been with them. My deposits are instant except for the ones by wire which hit my account with a reasonable 3 days delay.

As for Cynthia's claim the broker goes by 5 names, they are all the same broker. Regional partners such as fxfrench.com, fxmalay.com, fxind.com etc.. come with their own support staff for each region which is not such a bad thing.

As for having no emails answered, I find that hard to believe. The support is always there and if you think Cynthia is being truthful, just look on the official fxegypt forum for all the thankyous for the rapid and friendly service. There is even a thank you thread started by one of the traders.

They are not crooks or thieves. They even work out issues in your favour like one time there was a spike(on the old server. They have recently upgraded) on aud/usd that took out my stop loss. 1/2 hour after my email complaining about it, my money was returned to the account, and the position re-established which eventually rode to my take profit target.

In a nutshell, fast service, low spread, fast execution and a good selection of currency pairs and futures to trade makes fxegypt (an FXOpen partner) my choice of broker.

This company is a scam company.

after the Non Farm payroll news JAN08, i started trading and had incur losses.

after few hours later, there was a CAD news,

i have make a profit of $2640USD using 4 lots on that trade.

It was my only winning trade.

When i was happy that i have recover all my losses + profits.

i wanted to make a withdrawal.

But the TRADE profit became 0.

and i ask the online help,

they just divert me to finance@ fxopen etc

and i did not even receive any respond or explanation at all.. and i had email them several times.

i try going online through the online help but no USE.

Calling them but to no avail.

once they hear your acc no., they will say they cant hear properly and hang up.

What sort of services is this??

Ask (Offer) — price of the offer, the price you buy for.

Aussie — a Forex slang name for the Australian dollar.

Bank Rate — the percentage rate at which central bank of a country lends money to the country's commercial banks.

Bid — price of the demand, the price you sell for.

Broker — the market participating body which serves as the middleman between retail traders and larger commercial institutions.

Cable — a Forex traders slang word GBP/USD currency pair.

Carry Trade — in Forex, holding a position with a positive overnight interest return in hope of gaining profits, without closing the position, just for the central banks interest rates difference.

CFD — a Contract for Difference — special trading instrument that allows financial speculation on stocks, commodities and other instruments without actually buying.

Commission — broker commissions for operation handling.

CPI — consumer price index the statistical measure of inflation based upon changes of prices of a specified set of goods.

EA (Expert Advisor) — an automated script which is used by the trading platform software to manage positions and orders automatically without (or with little) manual control.

ECN Broker — a type of Forex brokerage firm that provide its clients direct access to other Forex market participants. ECN brokers don't discourage scalping, don't trade against the client, don't charge spread (low spread is defined by current market prices) but charge commissions for every order.

ECB (European Central Bank) — the main regulatory body of the European Union financial system.

Fed (Federal Reserve) — the main regulatory body of the United States of America financial system, which division — FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) — regulates, among other things, federal interest rates.

Fibonacci Retracements — the levels with a high probability of trend break or bounce, calculated as the 23.6%, 32.8%, 50% and 61.8% of the trend range.

Flat (Square) — neutral state when all your positions are closed.

Fundamental Analysis — the analysis based only on news, economic indicators and global events.

GDP (Gross Domestic Product) — is a measure of the national income and output for the country's economy; it's one of the most important Forex indicators.

GTC (Good Till Cancelled) — order to buy or sell of a currency with a fixed price or worse. The order is alive (good) until execution or cancellation.

Hedging — maintaining a market position which secures the existing open positions in the opposite direction.

Jobber — a slang word for a trader which is aimed toward fast but small and short-term profit from an intra-day trading. Jobber rarely leaves open positions overnight.

Kiwi — a Forex slang name for the New Zealand currency — New Zealand dollar.

Leading Indicators — a composite index (year 1992 = 100%) of ten most important macroeconomic indicators that predicts future (6-9 months) economic activity.

Limit Order — order for a broker to buy the lot for fixed or lesser price or sell the lot for fixed or better price. Such price is called limit price.

Liquidity — the measure of markets which describes relationship between the trading volume and the price change.

Long — the position which is in a Buy direction. In Forex, the primary currency when bought is long and another is short.

Loss — the loss from closing long position at lower rate than opening or short position with higher rate than opening, or if the profit from a position closing was lower than broker commission on it.

Lot — definite amount of units or amount of money accepted for operations handling (usually it is a multiple of 100).

Margin — money, the investor needs to keep at broker account to execute trades. It supplies the possible losses which may occur in margin trading.

Margin Account — account which is used to hold investor's deposited money for FOREX trading.

Margin Call — demand of a broker to deposit more margin money to the margin account when the amount in it falls below certain minimum.

Market Order — order to buy or sell a lot for a current market price.

Market Price — the current price for which the currency is traded for on the market.

Momentum — the measure of the currency's ability to move in the given direction.

Moving Average (MA) — one of the most basic technical indicators. It shows the average rate calculated over a series of time periods. Exponential Moving Average (EMA), Weighted Moving Average (WMA) etc. are just the ways of weighing the rates and the periods.

Offer (Ask) — price of the offer, the price you buy for.

Open Position (Trade) — position on buying (long) or selling (short) for a currency pair.

Order — order for a broker to buy or sell the currency with a certain rate.

Pivot Point — the primary support/resistance point calculated basing on the previous trend's High, Low and Close prices.

Pip (Point) — the last digit in the rate (e.g. for EUR/USD 1 point = 0.0001).

Profit (Gain) — positive amount of money gained for closing the position.

Principal Value — the initial amount of money of the invested.

Realized Profit/Loss — gain/loss for already closed positions.

Resistance — price level for which the intensive selling can lead to price increasing (up-trend).

Scalping — a style of trading notable by many positions that are opened for extremely small and short-term profits.

Settled (Closed) Position — closed positions for which all needed transactions has been made.

Slippage — execution of order for a price different than expected (ordered), main reasons for slippage are — "fast" market, low liquidity and low broker's ability to execute orders.

Spread — difference between ask and bid prices for a currency pair.

Stop-Limit Order — order to sell or buy a lot when the market reaches certain price. Usually is a combination of stop-order and limit-order.

Stop-Loss Order — order to sell or buy a lot for a certain price or worse. It is used to avoid extra losses when market moves in the opposite direction.

Support — price level for which intensive buying can lead to the price decreasing (down-trend).

Technical Analysis — the analysis based only on the technical market data (quotes) with the help of various technical indicators.

Trend — direction of market which has been established with influence of different factors.

Unrealized (Floating) Profit/Loss — a profit/loss for your non-closed positions.

Useable Margin — amount of money in the account that can be used for trading.

Used Margin — amount of money in the account already used to hold open positions open.

Volatility — a statistical measure of the number of price changes for a given currency pair in a given period of time.

What is FOREX?

How can I start trading Forex?
You'll need to register a trading account with a Forex broker, such as Marketiva. Then you can begin using their Forex client program to buy and sell currencies. This will take less than 5 minutes of your time!

Who owns Forex and where is it located?
It's not owned by anyone in particular. Forex is an Interbank market, meaning that it's transactions are conducted only between two participants - seller and the buyer. So as long as existing banking system will exist, Forex will be here. It's not connected to any specific country or government organization.

What the working hours of Forex market?
Forex market is open from 22:00 GMT Sunday (opening of Australia trading session) till 22:00 GMT Friday (closing of USA trading session).

What is margin?
Margin is money you need to have in your broker account to secure your open position. Different brokers require different amount of margin money to keep your positions open.

What are the "long" and "short" positions?
Long position is a "buy" position, meaning that this position will be in profit if price goes up.
Short position is a "sell" position, meaning that this position will be in profit if price goes down.

What is the best Forex trading strategy?
There is none. You should constantly develop your own strategies for every possible market situation, if you want to be in profit. Specific strategies can only be good for a certain period of time and for certain currency pairs.

How much money I need to start trading Forex?
With Marketiva you can start trading Forex with as little as $1. Usually, the minimum amount varies from $100 to $10,000 ($100,000 and more for Interbank trading).

I can't (or don't want to) install any Forex trading software on my computer. Can I still trade Forex?

Fundamental analysis is the process of market analysis which is done regarding only "real" events and macroeconomic data which is related to the traded currencies. FOREX - the foreign exchange market or currency market or Forex is the market where one currency is traded for another. It is one of the largest markets in the world.

Some of the participants in this market are simply seeking to exchange a foreign currency for their own, like multinational corporations which must pay wages and other expenses in different nations than they sell products in. However, a large part of the market is made up of currency traders, who speculate on movements in exchange rates, much like others would speculate on movements of stock prices. Currency traders try to take advantage of even small fluctuations in exchange rates.

In the foreign exchange market there is little or no 'inside information'. Exchange rate fluctuations are usually caused by actual monetary flows as well as anticipations on global macroeconomic conditions. Significant news is released publicly so, at least in theory, everyone in the world receives the same news at the same time.

Currencies are traded against one another. Each pair of currencies thus constitutes an individual product and is traditionally noted XXX/YYY, where YYY is the ISO 4217 international three-letter code of the currency into which the price of one unit of XXX currency is expressed. For instance, EUR/USD is the price of the euro expressed in US dollars, as in 1 euro = 1.2045 dollar.

Unlike stocks and futures exchange, foreign exchange is indeed an interbank, over-the-counter (OTC) market which means there is no single universal exchange for specific currency pair. The foreign exchange market operates 24 hours per day throughout the week between individuals with forex brokers, brokers with banks, and banks with banks. If the European session is ended the Asian session or US session will start, so all world currencies can be continually in trade. Traders can react to news when it breaks, rather than waiting for the market to open, as is the case with most other markets.

Average daily international foreign exchange trading volume was $1.9 trillion in April 2004 according to the BIS study.

Like any market there is a bid/offer spread (difference between buying price and selling price). On major currency crosses, the difference between the price at which a market maker will sell ("ask", or "offer") to a wholesale customer and the price at which the same market-maker will buy ("bid") from the same wholesale customer is minimal, usually only 1 or 2 pips. In the EUR/USD price of 1.4238 a pip would be the '8' at the end. So the bid/ask quote of EUR/USD might be 1.4238/1.4239.

This, of course, does not apply to retail customers. Most individual currency speculators will trade using a broker which will typically have a spread marked up to say 3-20 pips (so in our example 1.4237/1.4239 or 1.423/1.425). The broker will give their clients often huge amounts of margin, thereby facilitating clients spending more money on the bid/ask spread. The brokers are not regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (since they do not sell securities), so they are not bound by the same margin limits as stock brokerages. They do not typically charge margin interest, however since currency trades must be settled in 2 days, they will "resettle" open positions (again collecting the bid/ask spread).

Individual currency speculators can work during the day and trade in the evenings, taking advantage of the market's 24 hours long trading day.
